Invitation for Authors – Key Issues in Higher Education Book Series Publisher: Stylus Publishing, LLC Editor: Donald E. Heller, The Pennsylvania State University.
The Spellings Commission on the Future of Higher Education, the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act and sharpening debates about access, accountability, and outcomes demand informed debate about the role of higher education in society. To enable university and college administrators, as well as federal and state policy makers, to shape policy on these key issues, they need access to reliable data, effective interpretation of relevant research, ideas and analysis to guide them in the decisions ahead.

great thought; only concern would be that Doug and Dennis are working on a New Directions edited volume (to which some of you all have contributed) and there's a New Directions in Institutional Research volume on athletics that Jennifer Hoffman is editing. I don't know how the proposal process would work here, but it wouldn't be a terrible idea to see if it would be worth holding off for a year or two to maximize the impact of each book.
Is Doug still work on the New Directions volume? I haven't heard anything from him since AERA. If two new volumes are coming out, Welch's suggestion of holding off seems reasonable. That might give me some time to get some new research together!
Thanks, Welch & Troy. The timeline you share is very useful, but I am not sure how much of a notice we need to provide to Don Heller to include this as a possible focus...
I asked Kyle to drop a note to Don Heller and inquire about the timeline, framework, and if athletics was even a fit.
Here's the response - "The series is focused on the intersection of public policy (state or federal policy) and higher education. So if you had some kind of hook about federal or state influence on athletics, we could talk about it."
I don't know how much of this is new research, if it is general discussion or what. Kyle and I are meeting Tuesday night and I will share our thoughts.
If it is a series, if we drop a hint to Don and let him know we would be interested on the back end of it, we may fit well into that timeframe...
